Playing Doomtown Online!

Recently, I discovered that there was this neato client for playing Magic: the Gathering. I though "uh-huh", because I don't play Magic. Then I discovered that there was a database patch for Warlord. I downloaded that and started playing Warlord online.

Then I started thinking, why not do a similar database patch for Doomtown?

I asked about and found out how to do it and now I'm pleased to announce that the Doomtown patch is complete!

Simply download Apprentice and install it into a different directory to any others that you already have installed (can only have one active cardset at a time in one install). Extract expan.dat to the install directory and cardinfo.dat into the Sets subdirectory. You can also get Apprentice here.

There are a couple of great themes available for Apprentice in the files section of the Doomtown Online Yahoo group. Thanks to Steve Wallace and Joe Fourhman!

A few important notes. In order to get the card set to work, some cards have had their names changed.

• Any cards that started with single quotes (e.g. 'Glom) have had to have the quote removed. (e.g. 'Glom is now Glom)
• Any cards that were in double quotes (e.g. "Oops...") have had to have the quotes removed. (e.g. "Oops..." is now Oops...)
• Any cards that started with '...' (e.g. ...and Scooter) have had the dots removed. (e.g. ...and Scooter is now and Scooter)
• As a combo of 2 & 3 above, any cards combining both double quotes and dots are changed to (e.g. "...or After Three?" is now or After Three)
• Any cards that started with a number, have had to have the number spelled out (e.g. 2nd Bank of Gomorra is now Second Bank of Gomorra)
• Also, card name is limited to 26 characters. However, all cards have their full names printed in the card details. Because of this, to make sure uniqeness doesn't come to play some cards are changed slightly. For Example, we already have 'Brigadier-General Patterso' His experienced version is 'Brigadier-General Patt Exp'
